Environmental commitment with concrete

Commitment to the environment is one of the fundamental pillars of the company. Leftover and surplus concrete is reused in new products or washed into new raw material that goes back into the production.

This way we avoid both landfills and unnecessary emissions into the environment.

All of our production facilities have built multi-chambered sedimentation plants that separate cementitious sludge from the water. Both to ensure environmentally correct handling and use. Through the R&D project "Green Concrete" good results have been achieved in converting this sludge into new raw material for concrete. Several departments have installed their own, advanced environmental facilities that reclaim concrete, sludge and water.

After cleaning, the process water is also reused for washing the concrete drums or for use in the concrete production.

In cooperation with major customers and research institutions, we research possibilities of using new raw materials recovered from waste.

To Ølen Betong, concrete is a material of opportunities that provides environmental strength and safety in long lasting constructions.

Waste management

Ølen Betong emphasizes environmental thinking when it comes to waste. Our goal is to reduce the amount of waste produced in our businesses, and to treat it in a proper and environmentally sound manner:

Purchase products that minimize waste
Agreements with suppliers to return products we're done with
Agreements with suppliers to return pallets and other packaging
Recycling of varius materials: wood, paper, plastic, metals, concrete and more
Shipping combustible waste to approved facilities for energy recycling
Shipping hazardous materials to approved handling facilities: Oil, tires, batteries, fluorescen lamps, electrical waste and more.

All waste must, as far as practically possible, be sorted and delivered in separate fractions for material recycling / to an approved disposal plant. The remainder is delivered as residual waste. Each department sorts and collects the various fractions at their own environmental station, and declares and delivers this to approved disposal plants. In Ølensvåg, a larger environmental station has been built to handle the factory's waste. For source sorting, containers that are marked with name and color code are used according to the setup for this.

Naturally, it is important to follow up on all regulations and requirements from the authorities and customers. Nevertheless, Ølen Betong's main reason for investing in the environment is to build and create for the future. Our children will take over a society where nature flourishes and it is safe to live.

Thats why it is our primary goal that the company should not have any emissions that harm the environment.

Thats why we are certified according to NS-EN ISO 14001:2015.

Environmental policy

In Ølen Betong we comply with current legislation for health, environment and safety.

We take responsibility for the employees' safety and the environment both within our company and in relation to the local communities where we have our business.

We work continuously to prevent and reduce the environmental impact of our own business as well as from the products and services we provide. Environmental deviations are reported and measures are implemented quickly.

In each department and jointly our employees define areas for environmental improvements, set realistic goals for these areas and participate in the evaluation of the goals achieved.

The management stimulates and encourages environmental measures and prepare the financial framework and resources of the measures.

Our products should have properties that provide an environmentally friendly life cycle - from production, application and further to disposal. We must strive for solutions where products can be recycled after the end of their life cycle.

We have established a system for measuring environmental impact and shall regularly evaluate the results against the targets. Against this background, measures and targets are adjusted for new time periods.
